PLEASE NOTE:  LOTS OF EARLY PICS AREN'T SHOWING ANYMORE.  for some reason I can't modify and post with more than 3 images on it so will have to live will posting new pics later.

Hi all,  Thanks for making me feel welcome here on the forums recently.

After much messing about, I’ve finally started an Empire army!!!  I’m relatively new to the whole converting/painting scene (I’ve done a little 40K over the past year) but I love jumping in at the deep end - so with that in mind I have set off on a crazy mission to assemble/convert/paint a 10,000 point Empire army of entirely plastic - no metal models or bitz - just ‘coz I really stink with metal minis.

For a full list you can check out my thread in the Parade Ground (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=26461.0) and I am also looking to trade for stuff I will need for the project (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=26519.0) - the army is based on “what would happen if the forces of chaos invaded and conquered most of the empire and the Emperor & the Cult of Sigmar had to make one last stand”.  It’s gonna be full of WP’s, special characters, knights, flagallents and all manner of units.  I’ve decided to model/paint the unit’s after the region that they are renowned in as I think the emperor would be able to call on the best of the best when he needs them (Nuln artillery train anyone?). For the bases I want to have a battlefield feel with a few chaosy bits of junk lying around and the odd dead guy.

I have started by getting my hands on an Army box and a battalion box - this will keep me busy for a little while at least.  I will try to post on a regular basis but some weeks may be slow going so will see how I go.  First up, just something to get me started. Have assembled the Flagellants that came in the army box (not a full unit yet) and working on the pistolliers.  Will try to get a couple of units completed before I start painting.  Will throw up a couple of photos in the next day or so.

Well I'm a big fat lier aren't I?  :eusa_wall:  OK going to start writing my update. :icon_redface:

Right Here we are - With the Conversion Comp & The Pleasant Surprise & a little something extra  :icon_wink: constructed, I'm now at a stage where I am going into a painting frenzy.  Obviously I can't show you the special projects yet but here is what I have on the painting board:

my unit of swordsmen with Archlector

Unit of Crossbowmen with Captain & 2 detachments of gunners

The Reiksguard with Kurt Helborg & Ludwig (my own versions of them as I'm going plastic only)

The unit of Pistoliers with Outrider & WP

My first unit of Flaggies with Prophet of Doom

And the start of the artillery

So - that'll keep me going for a while - but now I'll be painting in small batches at a time so will update as often as I can.

Bye for now.

Thanks - I'm still a newbie really but it's fun to do lots of little changes to make your models different.
I've conned a few family members to buy me stuff so I haven't had to outlay too much yet - Now i have to afford all the paint!!  :biggriin:

And all plastic, too. Dude...I'm impressed. As a matter of fact...
This might be one of the top 5 most impressive things that I have
seen in 10 years in hobby games. NICE!

Wow.  Some rather large units of flagellants, crossbows, and pistoliers ... interesting.  Some nice conversions in there. :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Thanks heaps Killan - That means a lot. I've been dragging the chain the last few months trying to get the done & after looking at them for so long I'd really started to question whether I had made the right choices.

Hey GamesPoet - Yeah big numbers all around. Not really suited to winning games probably but I'm thinking, 10,000 points means anything they get into it with will pack a good punch so a few extra backups should help them last a little longer  :icon_biggrin: (but can you image setting up on the board and seeing Crossbowmen 10 wide & 2 deep with a gunner captain, flanked by 2 detachments of 5 x 2 gunners - on a hill!! All 41 could fire!!)

If you check out my army list you'll see that there's a ton more large units to go :icon_biggrin: - Already done one of my 'Things With Wings' Characters for the comp but apart from that it's still all a blank canvas.

Well I've just undercoated so I guess it's off to decide what to paint first.

Some awsome conversions and a really good backstory I can't wait to see how this turns out
Most empire players don't whine about the Empire book. We spend our time whining about other army books- thats what makes us different.

Well - Things are cruising along at the moment but seeing as i will be away for 5 days over Easter, I thought I had better let you guys know that I am indeed painting (not just sitting on my a*** doing nothing :icon_twisted:).
Where we're up to: Still working through first layer of colour - still need to wash then highlight after that so they definitely look flat at the moment.  Tried lots of different clothing patterns to bring more variety into it - we'll see how it works .

Will update again once I'm through the wash stage as that will be slightly more exciting to look at than this lot :biggriin:.
Till next time :::cheers:::

OK - Slowly getting somewhere.

Got back after Easter all freshened up and got a bit of work done .

Things With Wings Conversion is entered & Painted so as soon as the winner is announced I will put up some pics in here
Also just finishing up my Mini Exchange project so that has taken a little of my time too.

Anyways - back to the topic at hand - Have decided to go for a 'dirty' weathered look which also means no real highlighting will be done (partly 'cos I like th elook & partly 'cos I suck at highlighting). Also table standard so not going to try to get eyes done.

Recently completed:
Captain Of the Empire (residing in Hochland)

His standard Bearer (not confident enough to freehand anything onto the banner - maybe later)

The accompanying unit of Hochland Crossbowmen - Tried to get lots of variety in the uniforms while still keeping a limited palette.

And their detachments of gunners - Mixture of old & new minis in this lot

Now - onto some Averland Pistoliers - well their horses at least (onto the riders after the horses)

Till next time - My Sigmar keep you strong.  :smile2:

Everything in this blog so far looks great except for 1 little figure and its that Archlector on foot.  For some reason I can't stand that head, and it looks like he has little to no neck.  Plus, and this is my opinion, but I can't stand the Empire General on foot's body.  Those legs!

Fair comments Volt - that arch lector head is from the 40K Chatchan kit (thought it looked ok as all the scrolls etc bulked out the rest of the body) Will see how things turn out - With the Capitan OTE with handgun, the pose is a bit static with those legs, I know.  I was a little scared to get too fancy with him - got another one to do later with the other unit of crossbowmen - so he'll be more dynamic (and probably have to use those legs another 10 times or so, so will work out better ways to use them).

Yeah - those horses just seem a little 'empty' to me. Needed to add a little something to them.

And thanks to those of you liking the colours - Pretty easy to replicate: White undercoat, Goblin Green & Merchrite Red (foundation paint), followed by a liberal wash of Delvan Mud.  The Ice Blue one the ribbons & feathers will be continued throughout the entire army to help tie all the regions colour schemes together.
