Bakalla's army of Sylvania (now very picture heavy!)
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:57:22 PM »
Greetings!  :::cheers:::

I converted this captain mounted on a pegasus a long time ago, about a year ago. I used a bretonian pegasus as you can see and the legs of a bretonian pegasus knight, the body of an empire knight and the head and banner from the flagellants sprue. I painted him up during the last few days and i'm quite happy with how he turned out now that he's finished, so i thought i'd share him with all of you. Let me know what you think!  :::cheers:::

I think the Pegasus looks a bit too ornate for the flagellant-type captain. Other than that, great work as usual.

All good!  I like the slightly injured pegasus captain with the field repaired banner.  See diferent story different fluff.  Were you planning on putting the green wyvern on the banner as well and maybe the barding shield?  I think it would look awesome.

You have a very old school approach to painting, particuarly evident on the reds, bright green on the shield and flesh tone. I like it alot!

Both these models are from the mid 80's, painted for my ever growing empire force. I painted these simultaneously for a completely coherent look so that the opponent will easily recognize these on the tabletop as my army's fire wizards.

The model on the left comes from an old beginner's set of RPG adventurers and the right model is an ancient Gandalf model from Citadel's old Lord of the rings line... I hope you like them!

Up next on my painting table is a General on Griffon! A mighty model with very un-mighty performance in the game.. none the less he has to be painted and i will try him in a couple of games before i dismiss him completely...

Beautiful work, I like bright colours. Which province is he from ? (say Sylvania say Sylvania say)

I'm still not completely decided on the fluff of my army so i can't say fore sure where he's from. But many of my models are black/red, dark yet colourful and Sylvania has been in my mind. So... he's from Sylvania!  I actually came up with the colour scheme for my army while looking through a Vampire Counts army book rather than the empire book. I like them to look not 100% conventional but slightly different, but i think it suits Sylvania in most respects. (my army also contains purple, green and some other strong colours...)

Your hero on Pegasus certainly looks like a vampire with that pale skin. It would be fitting that they are from Sylvania.

WAsh out your mouth with soap !!!!!!
Not every imperial citizen living in Sylvania is a vampire you know....some Sylvanians heroicly fight back against the denizens of the night, holding back a tide that has drowned the surrounding provinces in the past  :icon_exclaim:

Bakalla...woohoo..... good choice :)

Didn't say everyone from Sylvanian is a Vampire, but there were a couple. His hero still looks more like a vampire than a living human to me.

My Sylvanian (!!) general of the empire on his mighty griffon! Behold, the empire's weakest general  :-D I'm going to try him out in a couple of games, but i haven't got very high hopes for him. I love the model though! I think it's a pretty nice center piece for the army, even though he's not very mighty gameplay wise...

I like the latest model, good work on the mount. Didn't like the first one as much, too multicoloured for my personal tastes.

Beautiful models Bakalla. Choosing the Sylvanian colours is quite unique - I love how they are turning out. Most impressed by your captasus, although I can't wash the bretonnian taste from my mouth still (sorry 'bout breaking the joke here). Amazing griffon general! Please tell us how he did in battle, I always have this romantic image of the guy breaking enemy elite in two, probably way unrealistic

I love the griffon general. You don't see enough griffons these days, especially a classic one like that.

I like the idea of the Sylvanian army, would it be a retrospective army though?
The general on griffon is fantastic, this might be a stupid question but where did his head come from? I want one!

Good to hear you like Talisman! The miniatures are incredibly nice, imho. They're so old and full of character, i wish i could collect all of them. I've only got one apart from these two though, and that's the "Swashbuckler". I guess i will paint him soon too, but i'm busy painting some halberdiers now...

The general's head.. the general is a metal knight, so i didn't exchange his head. It's a classic "knight of the blazing order" or something like that, a banner bearer. I cut off his banner and gave him a plastic sword. I'm glad you like him! I still haven't tried him in a game though, i've heard griffons are pretty apalling in a game...

Nice idea of your army colours. I like your painting and  and especially the Griffin general, don t be pessimistic about him in your games, after a few disasters and horrible loses you will learn how to use him and he will be really usefull to you, believe me, I use a griffin general quite often.

Also, where can I find these metal knights, eBay?

Thanks for the comments! I will try the griffon in a few games - i do love the model so it would be nice to see if i could make it work in the game as well..

I got mine from eBay, i believe they're 5th edition models but i'm not sure.
