Starting Ostermark (WIP) and a question
« on: October 12, 2009, 04:10:40 PM »
Hi,
I have just posted my first post on the Parade Ground for the 2000pt army I hope to build. (so please comment and advice).
I have decided to create an army based on the region of Ostermark. And I have to admit its mainly for the colour scheme not the history.

I have not paint a thing for several years and have come back as a good way to relax and bring out a bit of my competitive edge.
As I have never collected a Warhammer army (always 40k before) I was drwn by the more tactical edge of solid units.

On to the question before I start waffling on too much.
I want a fairly large solid unit of knights. I will be using them as a core choice I think at this stage. I am not really drawn to any of the current knightly orders i have seen or read about.
As a result i have painted two horses each of the schemes I am torn between.
First being a unit with the same purple and yellow colour scheme of the main army. Hopefully this would nicley tie them to the army as a whole.
The second will be a much darker scheme embazoned with blue / white flames. This one with the obvious advantage of being ably to create a bit more character of them.
........So the question is what do people think? Is using the knights linked to the main colour scheme a waste? Do most people use one of the established orders?

Below them are the first attempts of greatswords and comments or critisism would be welcomed along with any other advice.
Oh and captains pegasus WIP

Thanks in advance

For some reason the pictures don't seem to be showing.

Your knights could represent units organized by local nobles or priests or whomever.

And welcome to W-E! :::cheers:::

I like those horses! Both styles. IMO the purple and yellow style would be better for a big block, it makes more sense for a large unit to be part of the state's army. At least that's how I see it. I would definitely include a smaller unit of knight with the other paint scheme though, because that's just awesome!

P.S. I used purple and gold for my knights, to give them that 'royal' feel and make them different from the rest of the army, but also the same.

Not looking bad so far. You should changes the basing scheme in my opinion as it detracts from the models somewhat. Static grass and gravel is just as easy to stick on.

In terms of painting adding one or two neutral colours such as browns could work well. At the moment the equipment and the like on the models stands out too much or merges it into the colour of the unifrom. Instead picking one or two focal points (such as face, unifrom, weapon etc.) to focus on works well. These areas should then recieve the most colour and attention to detail, improving the overall model by drawing the eye to the most striking and best painted areas.

The pidgeon bombs are excellent, it looks like he's trying to direct the birds around after having fired his starter pistol...  :-P  I like the beasts wizard too, grizzly stuff is not usually to my tastes but he just seems to work nicely. It could be the facepaint?
Also, well done for sticking something on the Count's champion's helmet, I always think that model's plain head makes him look out of place or less heroic amongst the regular greatswords.

Hope my first C&C wasn't too over-ambitious

I really like the disorganised and eager look of the swordsmen.

The variations and wear on the uniforms make it seem that it is a unit of veterans merged into one unit. Very nice touch  :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
