Steam tank blog....or post your tank here
« on: March 17, 2008, 11:04:18 AM »
So as promised I am posting my recently scratch built tank along with my other two tanks for scale comparison.  Other than this I also wish this blog to develop into a steam tank blog so that everyone can have a look at all the owesome ideas regarding the painting as well as converting of the steam tank.  So just feel free and go ahead posting your own steam tanks.  I will start this off by posting my three tanks.  enjoy...

Scratchbuilt steam tank and the present steam tank

Scratchbuilt steam tank and the old version steam tank

Old version tank painted years ago

New version tank painted two years ago or so...

Thanks for replying Obi  I thought that no one posted because no one liked the idea of a steam tank blog

At lease someone has a tiny place in his heart left for the Empire's cute little beast  :icon_twisted:

Gotterdammerung, Old Reliable Variant

Mjolnir, Hammer of Sigmar Variant

As Yet Unnamed Standard Variant, WIP

I apologise for the variations in picture quality, but to give credit its due, Mjolnir was photographed for the GW US website by "Dirty" Steve Fuller a few years back.
And yes, I have fielded all three at once. I blitzkrieged right into my Dwarven opponent's center battleline with knights and Greatswords hot on the heels of the tanks. It was glorious for a few turns...then I lost anyway.

Great work from everybody here! I've seen your scratchbuilt ST Shadowwolf and I must say that 'm impressed. relly close to the original.

I've already shown this to my Empire blog (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=20607.0) thread but since the update on my Empire Army will take a while due to currently lack of time I think its a nice opportunity to show it again here!

Hey nice entries from all  :::cheers::: I must say that i am really impressed by the fact that each of your steam tanks seem to have been pimped in some way or another

@Albrecht, farsight and cad@ver: your the way that you stanks are painted in super cool.  They really rock.  You guys out there have some mad painting skillz  :eusa_clap:

@shadowwolf your steam tank is so close to the original that if you didn't say it was scratch built it would pass for a GW one easily.  I like it lots as I do all the others.  Its impressive what hobbyists can do with a little bit of imagination.

Please take a good look at your own tank. And another one. Read this quote. Get a mirror. Then think again. They aren't the only ones with those skills.

@King: my friend, your scratchbuild ST is a such a great job. I've seen it through creating it in the other thread and I must say that I'm impressed

Hey shadowwolf, do you by any chance have some WIP pictures from your beauty?
EDIT: Just found your step by step guide in the Workshop section. Really great and inspiring work!

I totally agree! Each model in this thread is a painting (and modelling, and scratchbuilding and inspiring and...) masterclass on its own :biggriin: Great job everyone and waiting for more to come!

I love the wolfskin on Mjölnir! How did you do that?

Plastic wolf head, big claws from a 40K Space Wolf character and lots of greenstuff!

Cad@ver, you've officially posted the best old school steamtank ever! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:Amazing paintjob and homage to the Empire banners of old!

I've noticed everyone's tanks are on bases. I've always been opposed to putting anything with wheels on a base, but I don't play outside my closeknit circle too much lately. Is this what most people are doing these days-putting Stanks on bases?

@ Cad@ver I must say that the same holds true for your tank ( your NMM technique is just stunning)

@Albrecht: Whilst I didn't base my old or new version tank I did base my scratch built one because of the fact that it is somewhat spherical and so when charging one wouldn't know from where to measure the charge .  But apart from this I think it is also a practical issue as to have a clear cut border (base) provides with less tournament hassle  :icon_mad:(ruleswise).  Besides it gives you an opportunity to create a good looking base to compliment the tank

That's all real metal on the boiler isn't it? Awesome job! It really has a grim look about it. The only thing is that it's part 40K, but hey, that's still cool. Did you use the Non Metali Metal technique?

King. Your scratchbuilt one is inspired by Da Vinci's design for a tank, yes? Looks very nice.

Albrecht. I very much like the metal on Mjolnir. Looks like it's seen battle, without needing to go for stereotypical battle damage.
