Rules: WAltar and Hammer of Sigmar prayer
« on: September 08, 2007, 01:04:58 PM »
Had an important realization yesterday, during a discussion on a different prayer.  Per the FAQ, the re-rolls from the Hammer of Sigmar prayer can NOT be used to re-roll the impact hits or horse attacks from the War Altar.

"Because the rider and mount can be hit separately, any saves and other special rules of the character (including those from magic items, spells, etc.) are not passed to it mount, and viceversa."

Feel free to look up the full passage in the FAQ, and be aware of this during play.  The War Altar is good enough already, we don't need to be taking things over and above that aren't deserved.

I never even thought you could use prayers on anything other than Empire characters, so thats what I have playing all along. Same goes for Count on griffon, only the count gets the re-rolls. Glad I've been doing things right for a change

Ditto.

Will add this to the FAQ thread Queek.

Hatred still applies for the horses in the first turn though, right? I mean, it's daft to think that the impact hits would be re-rollable, since they don't roll to hit (and the fact that an inanimate object can't really feel one way or another about things)
The (less than) triumphant return...

I wouldnt have thought the horses would have been affected, they arent intelligent enough to 'hate' anything. I certainly wouldnt play it that way, empire troops would make sense as the firey speak of the priests would stir passion in them. JMO though.

Hatred applies to mounts in 7th, so yes, the horses get to re-roll their attacks.

Smart horses, they can understand the sermons!

He cannot join them.  They are unbreakable, he isn't, they cannot get together.
You do not want to see a Master Engineer across the table giving you the bird.  With Pigeon Bombs, he is a killing machine.  Ridicule the robo horse relentlessly, but pay homage to the pigeon.

And all you have to do is hit the big "martyr" button and you get hatred anyways

No, I dont believe you can

Hatred allows you to re-roll failed rolls to hit, and since no to-hit roll is made you don't get to re-roll anything

Hammer of Sigmar only affects the Arch Lector and not the War Altar, so it couldn't be used on that

Ya, its pretty tough, but its not invincible and is fairly expensive (mine runs at like ~320 pts...)
