Sweet Christmas! Prayer Rule I Had Not Thought About!
« on: May 16, 2007, 03:52:04 PM »
If a Wizard has the Hammer Of Sigmar upon him, he can re-roll ToWounds on his spells, can he not?!

Like, if you throw a Fireball spell and roll, say 4 hits.

You then roll 4 ToWound dice, and you get 2 1s.  You can re-roll those 1s couldn't you!

I'd assume so... would be better to use a bigger spell though (like 2d6 or something) What would happen if a comet hit while he had that on him? Or a firewall?

They need to clarify that rule badly

Seeing how the spell is call "the HAMMER of Sigmar" it's probably gonna be effective in hth only.  But GW is known for not following the logical path.  :closed-eyes:

In the old days, that would have been nulled by the not affecting magic weapons, so if you consider a magic missile to be a magic weapon, it becomes a weapon, and so can be affected by HoS.

Nothing in the rules stops you, but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth.

@Greg DiStefano: Yes, hammer of sigmar it is, but since GW has allowed any hand weapon to represent magic weapons, e.g. mace of helstrum... when I can use a sword as a mace, what's to stop me throwing hammers?

This question's been asked a few times, here and on other forums. Hell, I think I asked it once on War Seer. The general consensus is that there's nothing in the rules to imply that it wouldn't allow rerolls on mage spells.

BTW, the "Hammer of Sigmar" thing.

Just as an addition, the hammer of the emperor (imperial guard in 40k) are not HTH fighters, yet they still use the term "Hammer"

Its not necessarily literal, it simply implies hitting hard (whether by missile or an oversized sledge

Nice idea, but you know what it would really enchant? a char with the doomfire ring.

Just make sure to hit several regiments, and you will be almost ensured that they all have to take a panic test. Used on a wizard with the lore of fire is another obvious advantage, especially if he also gets the burning head.

On a side note it won't affect the comet, as this is not in the wizards control, but then I havent looked it up, but it would be hard to argue against (as the comet isn't a RiP spell).

The Comet is an RiP spell.  And yes, you would appear to be allowed to reroll ToWounds when it lands.

It is the wizards comet if he casts it. I wouldn't try it, but by the book I would assume it to be legal. The lack of explanation on the prayers was an oversight...

It doesn't say: Only HTH, or "no Spells", or "No RiP spells", or "Not as an added gunner". Who knows what their intention was

I was wondering if say first turn the comet is cast, and second the prayer is cast

Then third the comet lands... re-roll wounds?

Probably by the wording, but it does seem like an oversight

So let's not look a gift hammer in the mouth.  Much like the rats didn't look a gift ratling gun (amoung many other dodgy tactics in many armies) in the mouth for the last edition.

This is definitely a grey area, similar to Engineer + Helblaster. Personally, I try to not gain advantage from rules that are not clear.

Bully for you Mother Theresa.

In a nutshell. And I thought to myself, "a little fermented curd will do the trick," so, I curtailed my Walpoling activites, sallied forth, and infiltrated your place of purveyance to negotiate the vending of some cheesy comestibles!

In my eyes Hammer of Sigmar is merely a blessing upon the characters attacks, whichever way the character tries to inflict harm on his/her enemy.

Think pretty much any combination with the prayer and other characters is possible :D only your imagination the limit :)
