The end is nigh & rank bonus
« on: February 10, 2007, 05:18:30 PM »
Hi,

 i just wanted to check this;

if i'm right the "end is nigh" rule doenst affect your ranks for that combat as it is at the start of the combat, right?

so stating a 10 strong unit (5x2) would do the "thing", they would still claim 1 rank if they suffered the D3 casualty?

From my understanding of how rank bonus works yes; however, next turn the unit will lose the rank bonus.

yes, you have to have 2 full ranks (5modells in each) to get +1 CR.
but flagellants are usually used as "road-bumps" anyway so you won't need the massed ranks. if you're looking for CR from ranks team the flagellants up with a unit of state troops. (allthough those usually comes with detachments..)

I have another question about the end is nigh though.. if I may

do you get the re-role bonus for hatred when you get it from the end is nigh isthe following turns in a combat, as it is the first turn you have the hatred rule?

a good question,

i'd say its not possible, but im not sure
(i believe that you can sacrify models every turn, so it wouldnt remain for the battle)

The way i use flaggelants wouldn't vary to much from 6th ed.
using them as flankers to a parent unit (in which case the detachment is in front of the parent unit, causing a turns delay)
or in combination with the rod of power in a cav unit (who doenst like to take initiative and charge a heavy cav unit :icon_twisted:)

especially when suporting a cav unit the rank might come in handy!
